WHAT IS URINARY INCONTINENCE
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. It is a common condition; affecting 1 in 3 women who have had a baby, and up to 10% of women who haven't had a baby, report urinary incontinence. No amount of urinary leakage is normal. Mild symptoms can unfortunately worsen over time, so seeking help as soon as possible is advisable. There are always ways that incontinence can be improved if not cured. It is never too late, and you are never too old.
TYPES OF URINARY INCONTINENCE
STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine on effort or physical exertion (e.g. sporting activities), or on sneezing or coughing
URGENCY URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine associated with urgency.
This can also be described as over active bladder syndrome were urinary urgency, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia, with or without urgency urinary incontinence, in the absence of urinary tract infection or other obvious pathology.
POSTURAL URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine associated with change of body position, e.g. rising from a seated or lying position.
MIXED URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine associated with urgency and also with effort or physical exertion or on sneezing or coughing.
POSTURAL URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine associated with change of body position, e.g. rising from a seated or lying position.
CONTINUOUS URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of continuous involuntary loss of urine.
INSENSIBLE URINARY INCONTINENCE
The complaint of urinary incontinence where the woman has been unaware of how it occurred.
COITAL INCONTINENCE
The complaint of involuntary loss of urine with coitus. This symptom might be further divided into that occurring with penetration and that occurring at orgasm.
NOCTURNAL ENURESIS
The complaint of involuntary urinary loss of urine which occurs during sleep.
TREATMENT
