URINARY INCONTINENCE

Urinary incontinence occurs in up to 39% of males and increases with age. Prostatectomy can be a major cause for urinary incontinence increasing the risk to nearly 60%. Physiotherapy management prior surgery has been shown to reduce or eliminate urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction post prostatectomy surgery.

Symptoms often include:

  • Stress incontinence ( e.g. urinary leakage with cough, sneeze, sit to stand)

  • Urinary urgency, frequency with or without urinary incontinence

  • Waking up to pass urine one or more times at night

  • Voiding dysfunction (hesitancy, altered stream, slow stream, incomplete emptying, straining)

Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis can also impact the functioning of the bladder leading to symptoms such as urinary urgency, (with or with out leaking) and incomplete bladder emptying.

At Karen Crudden Physiotherapy & Pilates we have specialized training in the management of these conditions.
